This year marks Hot Chocolates 40th Anniversary and 20 years of Cakebread Artisan Bakery, and we couldn't have reached these milestones without the incredible support of our customers, staff, community, and suppliers.
What began in the early 1980s with handmade chocolate truffles on Denman Island eventually grew into Hot Chocolates, which opened its Courtenay storefront in 1986. Over the decades, generations of customers have made us part of their celebrations, traditions, and everyday moments. Today, Hot Chocolates continues to create artisan chocolates, truffles, gelato, specialty drinks, and gifts by hand in the Comox Valley.
In 2006, Cakebread Artisan Bakery joined the family, bringing traditional European-style artisan breads, decadent cakes, pastries, sandwiches, and baked treats to Downtown Courtenay. Together, Hot Chocolates and Cakebread Artisan Bakery have become a a not-to-be-missed destination for visitors and locals alike.

Anniversary Celebration Activities
We're planning a full day of fun, treats, and community activities on Saturday, June 27 with CV Volkswagen, the Vee Dub Club & our Downtown Courtenay partners.
Sweet Treats Throughout the Day
We'll be serving complimentary:
- Cakebread Birthday Cake
- House-made Caramel Popcorn
- Signature Slushies
while supplies last.
Downtown Courtenay Scavenger Hunt
We're excited to launch a community scavenger hunt featuring approximately 20 Downtown Courtenay businesses.
Participating businesses have created unique questions about their stores, many with answers that can't simply be found online. Participants will need to explore downtown, visit businesses, and discover the answers for themselves.
To qualify for the prize draw, participants must correctly answer at least eight questions.
Thanks to the generosity of participating businesses, we'll be awarding gift baskets & gift cards to three lucky winners.
Questionnaires will be available beginning Friday, June 26 at Hot Chocolates & Cakebread Artisan Bakery and participating businesses.
Comox Valley Volkswagen Anniversary Car Show
The celebration will also include a special Volkswagen display presented by Comox Valley Volkswagen to mark their milestone of 40 years in the Comox Valley!
They will be joined by members of the Vee Dub Club and other local Volkswagen enthusiasts, showcasing a variety of classic and modern Volkswagen vehicles.
The car show will take place along 5th Street between England Avenue and Cliffe Avenue from 9am to 2pm.

From our beginnings as a small chocolate shop in '86 to the addition of Cakebread Artisan Bakery, we've been fortunate to grow alongside the community we call home. Every chocolate, loaf of bread, cake, cup of coffee, and conversation has been part of a much larger story.
